PPD Task 1

5 Things you know now that you didn't know before the summer break.
  1. The kind of design I want to produce.
  2. That I want to work in a studio, rather than freelance.
  3. I would love to work in the states.
  4. I want to work branding more.
  5. I want to graduate and design now!

5 Thing you would address differently than you did in the summer.
  1. Get a placement.
  2. Organise my time better.
  3. Spend more time designing/producing work.
  4. Spend more time in America.
  5. Visit more studios.

5 Specific things you will address this semester that should be useful.
  1. Organisation.
  2. Finding a work placement in Newcastle.
  3. Use my research to aid and influence my design.
  4. Create a personal time table of when and by what point aspects of my work need to be done.
  5. Book print slots early to avoid messing up my own time table.

5 Things you feel we could address as a group.
  1. Share sources for placements and visit opportunities.
  2. Knowledge of how and what is the best way to promote your self as a designer.
  3. How much do we charge for our work as level 6 students if and when we embark into live briefs,
  4. How we effectively pitch for a job to a perspective client.
  5. How to invoice a job properly and what is the correct protocol.

5 Things you feel we have not looked at in PPD you personally would like to know more about with reference to professionalism.

  1. Have more industry professionals come in from studios abroad, as it is something that I think influences the design of a large number of people on the course.
  2. Discuss in more detail company set up and speak with tutors, past students and visiting professionals about how they went about it.
  3. Similarly regarding freelance work, and the ways you may set up doing that.
  4. Job interviewing techniques the best way to go about it.
  5. What work we should be applying for and what frankly all the fancy titles mean.
