The crit was very beneficial, it made me realise the holes in my project and knowledge of what I was trying to produce, I fell now that my idea was on a small scale, not pushing any boundaries . Through talking with the people in my group I can now go away and re evaluate where I am with my good and how I plan to deliver it.

Module Submission Form OUGD102
Collection 100 Paul Sutton Module Self Evaluation
What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
Because of the nature of my project i have developed my Photoshop skills this co in-sided well with the Photoshop induction and brief, but i think i furthered my skills through the amount of editing i have done throughout this project with vary degrees of success but on the hole the results where pleasing.
What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development?
I did a lot of initial research on my dad in general, but when i had decided on my idea most of the research was to do with dates of to coincide with the hundred different facts I had chosen for my dads fictitious life. this research had a direct correlation on what pictures I used and how I used them. Another vital piece of research I did was the Book binding workshop because a book is a key aspect of my design.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how/will you capitalise on them?
I really enjoyed using Photoshop as an integral part of my project and feel it is a key strong area within the body of work, I haven't used Photoshop in as much detail as i have through this project but i feel it went well an is a skill i will be able to develop and pursue further.
What weakness can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
I feel one of the weakest parts of my work is the accumulating and recording of the different necessary design stages and ultimately the blogging of this information, this is something i know is very important to the course and my development as a graphic designer and is something i will make a concerted effort to improve upon.
Identify Five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. Better time management.
2. Use Blog more effectively.
3. Create more variations of work.
4. Experiment using different techniques.
5. Create a more comprehensive body of research.
How would you grade yourself on the following?

What if... Self Evaluation
What problem did you identify?
What makes Leeds such a vibrant and enjoyable place to live? was the question we set our selves, we went on further to show what we thought was a strong and under publicised aspect of the city, entertainment.
What evidence did you find to support your decisions?
We produced a series of questionnaires, one web based and the other paper based. We found that that entertainment was considered to be the least important aspect according to the pole we did. this lead directly to the thought about publicising the great entertainment within the city.
We also collected words and opinions about entertainment and Leeds in general.
What method did you use to gather your evidence and what form did it take?
The other research we undertook was the collecting of qualitative words and opinions, this was also primary research.
What method of research did you fine useful and why?
T thought the online quantitative questionnaire Kirsty produced was the most useful i felt it gave us real direction and something strong and factual to work with.
The other research done was still useful but i felt there weren't enough hard numbers not to be working from opinion.

We also collected words and opinions about entertainment and Leeds in general.
What method did you use to gather your evidence and what form did it take?
As previously state we gathered research by means of two questionnaire one primary quantitative, giving us hard nosed facts/stats about what people think about Leeds, the other being primary qualitative, with people writing there opinion.
What method of research did you fine useful and why?
T thought the online quantitative questionnaire Kirsty produced was the most useful i felt it gave us real direction and something strong and factual to work with.
The other research done was still useful but i felt there weren't enough hard numbers not to be working from opinion.
How did these inform your responses to you problem?
The research allowed to focus on one problem and one problem area which lead us to be able to decide upon a target audience and how we would introduce our solution into the world, via the Web. The questionnaires allowed us to decide on which aspect of entertainment needed a closer look and how we would communicate this to prospective student.
What methods did you encounter as problematic?/ How did you overcome this?
The paper based questionnaire was the least cooperative, causing a few issues, Sophie designed the questionnaire and distributed it with student halls, due to the fact student tend to be lazy and are not massively pro active only an hand full of people replied to the questionnaire there was not a great deal of range in the results and as it was based on opinion it wasn't all suitable for the ideas we had produced from the other questionnaire.
What research could you have carried but that would have proved more useful?
the questionnaires we did were given out to a fairly general audience perhaps the questionnaires could have been directed toward a more focused group, who we wanted to communicate to and fine there opinions relating to this subject.
Five things you have learned?
- The importance of the different types of research.
- How to create a valid and comprehensive piece of research relating to the brief.
- How to work productively in a small, to produce a similar out come.
- Production of a web page as a means of information transfer.
- how to use my skills and others to produce a group out come.
Five things you would do differently?
- Work as a collective more, to help the design process.
- Produce a greater body of research for a more in depth project outcome.
- Designate roles within the group to allow the dynamics to flow a little better.
- Be able to express my opinion to a fuller extent to communicate with the group better.
- to have regular intervals to crit and discuss the progression of the work within the group.
